Desert Adventures in Dubai: Safari, Culture & More

By Bristol Adventure Team13 August 2026Things To Do

Twenty minutes outside the city, the towers disappear and the Arabian desert takes over — copper-red dunes to the horizon, silence, and some of the best sunsets you will ever see. A desert safari is the heart of any Dubai trip, and this guide covers everything first-timers ask us.

What actually happens on an evening safari?

A typical evening desert safari runs from mid-afternoon to about 9 pm. A 4x4 collects you from your hotel, and after a drive into the conservation area the fun starts:

  • Dune bashing — 25–30 minutes of roller-coaster driving over the dunes with a licensed safari driver.
  • Sunset photo stop — the drivers know exactly where the light is best.
  • Camel rides and sandboarding at the camp, included as often as you like.
  • BBQ dinner under the stars with live Tanoura and fire shows, henna and shisha corners.

Sharing, premium or quad bike?

Our guests choose between three styles. The classic sharing safari is the best-value introduction. The premium safari upgrades the camp — better seating, table service and a calmer atmosphere. And for adrenaline, the quad bike option puts you on your own machine on open sand before the camp evening begins.

The culture is the secret ingredient

The desert is not just a playground — it is where Emirati culture began. The camps recreate a Bedouin majlis: carpets on the sand, Arabic coffee and dates on arrival, the Tanoura dancer spinning in a storm of colour. Ask your driver about falconry and how families crossed these dunes for generations; the stories are as memorable as the dune bashing.

Practical tips

  • What to wear: light, comfortable clothes; sunglasses; sandals or trainers. Evenings from November to February get genuinely cool — bring a light jacket.
  • Motion sickness: ask for the front seat and tell your driver — they will soften the dunes.
  • Children: very welcome; dune bashing is not recommended under age 4.
  • Cameras: the golden hour before sunset is the shot — keep your phone charged.

The desert is closer than you think and easier than you expect — hotel pickup, dinner and entertainment are all part of the package. Pick your date, and we will handle the rest.
